Vuvuzela – define ‘offensive’

In the midst of all the furore surrounding the vuvuzelas in use at the World Cup, I offer just this:

Imagine a 606 phone-in deep in the heart of the British football season. Half-way through the programme, a South African caller is put on the air to explain how obscene chanting is spoiling the broadcast of Premier League games for him and so many of his compatriots, watching the games beamed to their country.

Now think of the response he might get from subsequent callers.

And hold that thought.
